About the conference
Bournemouth University’s (BU) annual research conference – Showcasing Undergraduate Research Excellence (SURE) – returns for a fifth year on Wednesday 18 March 2020. As well as giving students a supportive platform to showcase their work, it gives others at BU an insight into the excellent research undertaken by our undergraduates. The conference is an excellent opportunity for undergraduates and recent graduates to share their work and develop their presentation skills.
Applications for submissions to SURE 2020 are now closed. We have received a fantastic number of submissions from all faculties - thank you. Now we would like to encourage as many people as possible to attend the conference to see the excellent work that our undergraduate students have submitted.
You can find a useful workshop presentation to download on the right side of the page that tells you all about the conference, what it means to present and the experiences of previous SURE winner.
The SURE conference is now recognised as a part of the Global Talent Programme.
Why you should apply
While the deadline to apply to SURE 2020 has now passed, here's why it's such a great opportunity for undergraduates and recent gratuates:
SURE is a great way to share your research and gain valuable presentation skills. As well as being a chance to improve your skills, prizes will be available which include a fully-funded Masters at BU for the best overall contributor. There will also be opportunities to participate in BCUR 2020 for students across each faculty.
Here's a video of recent BA (Hons) Public Relations graduate Balint Brunner explaining how he became involved in the SURE Conference last year and how it led to him presenting at the British Conference of Undergraduate Research:
How to apply
All applicants should complete an abstract submission form and return it to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please ensure that you include your faculty in the email subject line. These guidance notes should help with writing your abstract. The deadline for submitting abstracts is Monday 20 January 2020.
We would also be delighted if you would like to submit a photo with your application to help illustrate your research journey. This could be of you in a meeting, out on fieldwork, studying in the library or just a snap of your desk covered in mugs of tea and papers - anything that illustrates how you go about your research. There's absolutely no obligation to do this but we'd like to put together a gallery of images so you can see how other researchers work! Please make sure images measure 1920 x 1080 pixels.
