Previously, all graduates have been asked to complete the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education Survey (DLHE) six months after graduation to find out what they are doing in terms of work or further study. The DLHE has now been replaced by the Graduate Outcomes survey, which will start this year.
The Graduate Outcomes survey is a new national survey to understand where graduates’ degrees have led them. It will capture the work, further study and perspectives of graduates and your feedback will help us to know how we are equipping our graduates for employment. It will also help future students to make an informed choice about their university and course.
You will be contacted 15 months after you have graduated to find out what you’re doing.
The survey is led by an external organisation, but we will get in touch with you nearer the time to ask you to update your contact details.
You don’t need to do anything now - we just wanted to make you aware.
All you need to know
Who runs the Graduate Outcomes survey?
The Graduate Outcomes survey is owned by HESA, the Higher Education Statistics Agency. HESA supports the advancement of the higher education sector by collecting and publishing timely and reliable data about the sector.
The administration of the Graduate Outcomes survey is undertaken by a third-party survey contractor, who works in collaboration with HESA and BU.
How will I be surveyed?
You will receive an email inviting you to complete the survey online. You may also be contacted by telephone and asked to complete the survey over the phone. If you are not contactable, HESA may seek the information from a third party, such as a family member.
How will my responses be used?
Your responses will be used by BU and by other organisations for research purposes. Before you start the survey, HESA will provide detailed information about how your data will be processed, who will receive it and what they will use it for.
How do I make sure I am invited to take part in the survey?
BU will pass on your information to HESA. All you need to do is make sure we have accurate contact information for you – especially a valid email.
Is the survey compulsory?
No, it is not compulsory to complete the survey. When you are contacted by the survey organisation, you will be able to opt out and you will not be contacted again.
How do I find out more?
You can find further information about the Graduate Outcomes survey on the HESA website.
